How Age Is Calculated
This tool calculates your age the same way a calendar would: by counting whole years, whole months, and remaining days between your birth date and the date you're comparing against — not by dividing the number of days you've been alive by 365.25.
Starting from your birth date, the calculator adds up full years until the next one would overshoot the target date, then does the same for months, then counts whatever days are left over. When the day-of-month "borrows" from the previous month (for example, going from January 31 to a date in March), the tool correctly uses the actual number of days in that borrowed month — including 28 or 29 for February — rather than assuming every month is the same length.
This calendar-accurate approach is why your "years, months, days" breakdown will sometimes look slightly different from a quick mental estimate, and why it stays correct across leap years without any special-casing on your part.

How accurate is this age calculator?

Can I calculate my age as of a future or past date?

Why isn't "total days lived" exactly my age in years times 365?
Because leap years add an extra day roughly every four years. Someone who has been alive for exactly 40 years, for instance, has lived through about 10 leap days, so their total day count will be about 10 days higher than 40 × 365. The total days figure shown is the actual number of calendar days between the two dates.
Does the calculator handle leap years correctly?
Yes. All date math is done using real calendar dates rather than a fixed 365-day year, so February 29 and every other leap-year detail is accounted for automatically in the years/months/days breakdown, the total day count, and the next-birthday countdown.
Can I calculate the age of someone born a long time ago?
Yes. The birth year dropdown goes back to 1900, which covers virtually any living person and many historical figures. The math works the same regardless of how long ago the birth date was.
Is my birth date sent to a server or stored anywhere?

No — the tool works with calendar dates only, not the time of day or your time zone. It assumes you were born on the calendar date you select, without factoring in the hour of birth or which time zone you (or the "as of" date) are in.
How is "next birthday" calculated for people born on February 29?
In years that aren't leap years, the calculator treats February 28 as the birthday for anyone born on February 29, since that date doesn't exist on the calendar that year. In leap years, February 29 is used as normal.
