Lisa (BLACKPINK)
Born March 27, 1997 — Buriram Province, Thailand
Born Pranpriya Manobal in Buriram Province, Thailand, Lisa would become one of the most recognizable figures in global pop music. Known professionally as Lisa — her name legally changed to Lalisa — she rose to fame as a member of BLACKPINK before launching a solo career that broke records on virtually every platform at once.
Training & BLACKPINK
At thirteen, Lisa auditioned for YG Entertainment in Thailand, becoming one of four selected from over four thousand hopefuls — the label's first non-Korean-ethnic trainee. She moved to South Korea at fourteen and debuted with BLACKPINK in August 2016, quickly establishing herself as its lead dancer and main rapper.
Solo Breakthrough
Her debut solo single "Lalisa" (2021) accumulated 73.6 million YouTube views in 24 hours, breaking a record held by Taylor Swift. The B-side "Money" went viral months later and became the longest-charting K-pop female solo single in UK chart history. She won the MTV VMA for Best K-Pop in 2022, 2024, and 2025 — the first solo K-pop artist to do so.
Did You Know?
Lisa was born in Buriram Province — a corner of northeastern Thailand better known internationally for its Formula 1 circuit than for launching global pop stars. She was the first non-Korean-ethnic trainee ever signed by YG Entertainment, selected from over 4,000 hopefuls who auditioned across Thailand.
Lloud: Full Ownership
In 2024, Lisa founded her own record label, Lloud, and signed with RCA Records in a rare arrangement giving her full ownership of her masters. Her debut single under the new deal, "Rockstar" (June 2024), reached #1 on Billboard Global Excluding the US. Collaborations with Rosalía ("New Woman") and Doja Cat & Raye ("Born Again") both charted worldwide.
Her debut studio album, Alter Ego , released February 2025, entered the Billboard 200 at #7. Most-followed K-pop artist on Instagram. Nine Guinness World Records. It's a scoreboard that keeps updating.
Beyond Music
In 2023, Lisa was inducted into the Asian Hall of Fame alongside the late Ryuichi Sakamoto and received an honorary MBE from King Charles III. Her acting debut came in 2025 in HBO's The White Lotus Season 3, and she performed at the 97th Academy Awards — the first K-pop artist to do so. From March 27, 1997 in northeastern Thailand to the Oscars stage, the trajectory keeps updating.
