Irene van Dyk is a South African-born New Zealand netball player who is widely regarded as one of the greatest goal shooters in the history of netball. Early Career with South Africa

Born on June 21, 1972, in Ventersdorp in the western Transvaal, van Dyk grew up playing netball and represented South Africa at the international level from the early 1990s. She played in the 1995 World Netball Championships and the 1998 Commonwealth Games with South Africa, establishing herself as one of the most accurate shooters in the world. Her combination of physical attributes — she stands 1.91 meters tall — and shooting skill made her nearly impossible to defend. Career with New Zealand

After fulfilling the required residency period, van Dyk became eligible to represent New Zealand and was selected for the Silver Ferns, New Zealand's national netball team.
