From Belfast to the Catwalk
Born on May 1, 1982, in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland, James Peter Dornan was the son of Jim Dornan, a prominent obstetrician and gynecologist, and Lorna, a drama teacher who died of pancreatic cancer when Jamie was sixteen. The loss of his mother was a formative wound that would inform his most emotionally charged performances years later. He attended Methodist College Belfast before moving to London where, almost by accident, he was scouted by a modeling agency.
His modeling career accelerated rapidly: he fronted global campaigns for Calvin Klein, Armani, Hugo Boss, and Dior, becoming one of the most photographed men in the world and earning the nickname "The Golden Torso" from the fashion press.
